WWE Legend John Cena will make his final RAW appearance very soon. / WWE
John Cena's illustrious career is nearing its conclusion with just four dates left to go on the retirement tour that he has been embarking on for the last ten months. Netflix and WWE have announced that John will make his final RAW appearance on the November 17th edition of Monday Night RAW which will air from the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City.
How we got here:
Last year at Money In The Bank when the legendary Trish Stratus blew the roof off of the ScotiaBank Arena by bringing out the then sixteen time world champion John Cena in Toronto, I don't think any of us truly anticipated what John would say. After receiving love from and acknowledging the WWE Universe John hit us with the line nobody was expecting; ”Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE.” which of course garnered a very mixed reaction from those in attendance. John went onto confirm that he would be embarking on his retirement tour in 2025 whilst reiterating that events such as the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas would be his very last.
The Farewell Tour (Up to this point):
John Cena's Farewell Tour kicked off in Los Angeles as Monday Night RAW aired on Netflix for the first time ever and lined out his intentions to enter the Royal Rumble in Indianapolis at the beginning of February. Going to that event, Cena entered the event at #23 and made it into the final two before controversially being eliminated by Jey Uso who had entered at #20. John sat before the media after the event and declared that he would be entering the Elimination Chamber which was taking place in Toronto to punch his ticket to WrestleMania 41.
Just a month later, we saw the Elimination Chamber take place which saw John defeat a star-studded line-up of CM Punk, Damian Priest, Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins and Logan Paul to earn himself the right to challenge Cody Rhodes for his Undisputed WWE Championship whilst also tying a record for the most Elimination Chamber wins with Triple H. After the match, we saw Rhodes appear to have a classic face-to-face stare down with Cena therefore starting the build for what would be Cena's final WrestleMania match. Cody had been involved in a little bit of a spat with The Rock who had been trying to get Cody's "soul" and it had been heavily teased/promoted that Cody would need to make his final decision to The Rock's offer at the Elimination Chamber hence the appearance from The Rock who was surprisingly flanked by Travis Scott. After The Rock went onto further demand Cody's soul, we were hit with the infamous "go fuck yourself" line and then it came. Cena hugged Cody but became a man possessed and shockingly turned on Rhodes after The Rock gestured via a throat-slash.
After this we saw Cena begin to berate the fans that had stood beside him for two decades and he made promises to "ruin" wrestling and retire with the championship. Then we get to Night 2 of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas where Cena was able to defeat Rhodes with the help of Travis Scott and became known as "The Never Seen 17". On the RAW after WrestleMania 41 we saw Randy Orton attack Cena which set up a match at Backlash on May 10th in St. Louis, Missouri between the two veterans and renewing a famous and historied rivalry. During the match we saw R-Truth interfere in the match which inevitably helped him retain his championship and later that night as Cena spoke to the media, Truth decided to interrupt but was hit with an Attitude Adjustment which set up a match at Saturday Night's Main Event in on May 24th in Tampa, Florida which Cena was able to come out on top on by using a low blow. Later that night, Cena interrupted the World Heavyweight Championship match between Jey Uso and Logan Paul which prompted the return from former Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes further setting up a tag team match at Money In The Bank on June 7th which Cena and Paul went onto lose due to interference from a returning R-Truth (who was released just weeks prior but came back due to fan backlash).
Truth and Cena locked horns on Friday Night SmackDown on June 20th which saw Cena be defeated after he used the championship belt to take out Truth. At Night of Champions 8 days later Cena went onto defeat CM Punk after interference from The Vision (Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.) On August 1st, Cena dropped the heel persona and reverted back to a face after the King of The Ring winner Cody Rhodes attacked him and forced him to sign on the dotted line for a championship match at SummerSlam after Cena was trying relentlessly to back out. On Night 2 of SummerSlam we saw Cena drop the title back to Rhodes and move onto his next storyline with a returning Brock Lesnar who went onto attack Cena.
On August 31st at Clash in Paris, Cena went onto defeat Logan Paul and on his final SmackDown appearance as an in-ring competitor he answered Sami Zayn's open challenge for the United States Championship; granting Zayn the opportunity to continue a tradition that he had made popular. That match would end in a no-contest due to the returning Brock Lesnar attacking both men which set up to Cena's next PLE match which was at the already stacked card of Wrestlepalooza. Cena went onto lose the match at Wrestlepalooza and days later it was announced he would be facing AJ Styles at Crown Jewel in Perth which lead to his 100th win at a PLE whilst also cementing the match with Styles as a classic love letter to the industry.
The Remaining Dates:
As previously mentioned, we are down to the business end of Cena's legendary career and only four dates remain:
- Monday Night RAW - Nov. 10, Boston.
- Monday Night RAW - Nov. 17, New York City.
- Survivor Series - Nov. 29, San Diego
- Saturday Night's Main Event - Dec. 13, Washington D.C.
There are still many questions like how will Cena be involved at Survivor Series this November and who will his final opponent be? There's only one way to find out and that's to tune into RAW and hear from the man himself.
